The Story Behind the Bread Alone Project

The idea of a non-profit record label which aides the homeless came to me because: a) there seem to be homeless everywhere I go and b) I got tired of feeling like there was nothing I could do.

The concept evolved into: 1) put out a high quality product 2) the money will go to a good cause and 3) it will benefit the musicians who contribute their music to it by increasing their exposure.

I was inspired by two charities: The Temi Olga Kardas Charitable Trust and Paul Newman's line of  food products. Paul Newman and his wife, Joanne Woodward, have raised millions of dollars selling food products in order to fund the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.  In reality, it's a state of the art hospital for children afflicted with terminal diseases which actually looks like a movie set from an old spaghetti western.  They have gala events which include skits with the children and well known celebrities, such as: Julia Roberts, Whoopi Goldberg, David Letterman, Kim Basinger, Christopher Reeve, Alec Baldwin, Melaine Griffith and many others.

The lesser known organization, the Temi Olga Kardas Charitable Trust, was created by my father after my sister's death.  Instead of taking the money from her life insurance policy and giving it away to her favorite causes, he created a charitable trust.  Donations were neither sought nor accepted!  The board would meet periodically and donate the interest earned to organizations my sister would've supported had she still been alive (she was completing a Masters Degree in Social Work at the time of her death).  Over a nineteen year period, the trust gave away $15,000!  Some of the recipients were:

So this is my attempt to do something positive with my musical and personal life.  Lots of people helped in making this possible - both human and angelic.  I truly hope everyone enjoys the CD as much as I've enjoyed producing it.
